Emergency Procedures

Some dental emergencies include:

  • Knocked-out teeth
  • Broken teeth
  • Cracked teeth
  • Severe toothache
  • Something stuck between teeth

In some cases there may be steps you should take before visiting the dentist. If you've had a tooth knocked out, clean it off and hang on to it. If you can stomach it, try putting the tooth back into the socket and holding it there until you arrive at the dental office. If that's not possible, place the tooth in a cup of milk to preserve it. If something is stuck between your teeth, try not to panic. Attempt to loosen the object with floss, but if that doesn't work, just wait. You never want to use other tools to loosen an object, as this may cause damage to your teeth and gums. If floss doesn't work, let a dental professional take care of it.
